Invasion of the Smombies!

An interactive play with original songs about friendship, screens, and the courage to connect.
For grades 1-7.

For educators considering a booking: here’s what your students will experience and what your school receives.

THE STORY

What would childhood look like if the digital world disappeared overnight?

When a mysterious blackout strikes, former friends Cash and Calliope must navigate a world where every adult has become a Smombie, mesmerized by screens that refresh forever and never load. With no internet, no school, and no grown‑ups to help, students guide the story through live “Choose Your Own Adventure” decision points, shaping branching narratives through song, movement, and audience participation.

At its heart: what can children see about human connection that adults no longer can? No two performances are ever the same.

WHY THIS PROGRAM

Students shape the story. They’re making decisions that change the outcome, building agency and critical thinking in real time.

Meets students where they are. Digital citizenship and screen wellbeing are part of their daily reality. This show opens that conversation through play rather than lecture.

Engages diverse learners. Live performance reaches students who connect through visual, kinesthetic, and social learning styles.

The impact extends beyond the show. Pre‑show preparation, a live post‑show talkback, and a teacher resource package mean the experience lives well beyond performance day.

Supports BC curriculum. Connects to Social Studies, Arts Education, and Physical & Health Education.
